My Story
I had my first dog-sitting job in the spring of 2021. Since then, I have served over twenty people with all of their wonderful pets as many as 55 times, and counting! What once started out with the occasional request from a family member has now organically grown into a small business with new friends scheduling ahead before I get booked. (It happens—I once house/animal-sat for 5 people over the course of a month and a half!)
Over these past three and a half years, I have…
- cared for 5 different kinds of creatures at a single home.
- house/animal-sat for any time between 1 hour to 3 weeks.
- loved on dogs and cats, as well as fish, a turtle, guinea pigs, pigs, chicks, chickens, a pony, a horse, and a little crested gecko.
- tended to gardens and done some pool maintenance.
- taken care of pets with special needs, requests, or medication.
I never could have imagined the great journey that first dog-sitting experience would open the door to; indeed this has been a journey—as clients have all gone away on trips, I too have been traveling, going to places I have never been, trying new things, and meeting new faces (some furrier than others).
On this journey I have “lived life through someone else’s shoes” for a time, grown in understanding of what is meant to be a good steward, and witnessed how a home beautifully reflects the people living in it. I’ve seen houses through their stages of remodeling, animal family sadly go, new members gladly introduced, and homes in different seasons of the year. Truly, what a gift.
One of the comments I hear when the owners come back from their travels is their gratitude for a peace of mind knowing that their animals and home are being well taken care of. I am grateful to have been able to provide that, and I greatly look forward to continuing to do so.
